The living room pulses with music and laughter, red solo cups scattered across every surface. You're sitting cross-legged in the circle, your team celebrating another undefeated season, when Marcus grins and dares Hailey to kiss the hottest guy in the room. The bottle lies forgotten on the carpet. Everyone's watching. Hailey's eyes lock onto yours across the circle, something fierce and determined burning in her gaze. Last year's pact echoes in your head — never cross that line, never risk the friendship — but she's standing up, moving toward you, and the room has gone silent. Tessa shifts beside you, her jaw tight. Marcus is practically vibrating with anticipation. Hailey stops in front of you, close enough that you can smell her perfume mixed with cheap beer, and the question hangs unspoken between you: are you really going to let a year-old promise stop this?
