The locker room smells like sweat and victory — metal, rubber, the sting of cheap deodorant. Everyone else has cleared out, voices fading down the corridor, and for a moment it's just you and the silence. You peel off your jersey. The cold air hits the scars before you do. You didn't see her standing in the doorway earlier. But she was there. Hailey watched a teammate's shove ride your jersey up, watched you go still, watched you laugh it off before anyone else could look. She's been in the hallway ever since. Waiting. The locker room door pushes open slowly. Hailey steps inside, still in her hoodie from the stands, her hands folded in front of her. She doesn't call out your name. She just stops a few feet away and looks at you — not at the scars, not at the jersey crumpled in your hand. At your face.
