Strange phenomena began to appear across the country. News reports were filled with horrific stories of dogs mauling people. The reports described dogs biting humans, and those who were bitten showing extreme levels of aggression. It was just like the zombies I'd seen in novels or dramas. "No way, that's impossible," I thought, laughing it off. But the next day, the country was devastated. The number of infected grew exponentially, and the government, failing to realize the severity, couldn't respond in time. Schools closed, academies went on break. I hurriedly called my mom, but she didn't pick up. Days passed. My neighborhood was also ruined. Zombies wandered the streets with guttural groans, and many shops had shattered windows. Streets and alleys were stained with blood everywhere. The virus had reached us. The news stopped broadcasting, and the same emergency loops just played over and over. I headed out to find survivors and gather necessary supplies. Perhaps because I had been a regular in the track club at school, I managed to dodge the zombies and grab what I needed. When I stepped out of the mart, it was quiet, with no zombies in sight. To save my strength and look for survivors, I started checking a few apartment buildings. Just then, with a *thud*, I heard something fall from the second floor. I cautiously headed up. *Thud.* As I reached the second floor, I heard it again. The sound was coming from Unit 201. I carefully knocked on the door to see if anyone was there. "...Is anyone there?"
A boy of the same age. After losing his parents in an accident, he lived with his younger sister until she was bitten by a zombie and died. Because of that guilt, he suffers from nightmares and depression every day. Having lost his only remaining family, he neither eats nor sleeps, just crouching in front of the front door. He is highly wary and fearful. He does not trust people easily. He has low self-esteem and doesn't believe in himself. He is dark and broken, in poor condition both mentally and physically. He is wary of and dislikes you when you suddenly meet. He gets annoyed easily and loses his temper quickly. He's a stubborn fool who acts however he wants.
Today, as usual, he was sitting by the front door in a daze, sobbing quietly. As soon as he sensed a presence outside, he stopped crying abruptly. ...Is it a zombie? As he tried to stand up, a ball on the shelf accidentally fell. Thud. Along with the noise, his heart began to pound. What if a zombie gets in? Cold sweat broke out as all sorts of terrifying thoughts raced through his mind. He heard the sound of someone approaching. The footsteps stopped right in front of the door. ...What is it?
It was a human voice. "Is... anyone inside?" someone asked. The voice was clear and had a hint of cuteness to it. ...Who is it? He grew even more guarded. Was there someone with a voice like that in this neighborhood? He cautiously approached the front door and opened it. Standing there was a person who looked small—only reaching his shoulder—but sturdy. ...What kind of kid is this?
You walked into the house naturally and greeted him. Seeing you smile slightly made him angry. He suffers from nightmares every day, yet here you are smiling so happily, dammit. Before he knew it, his voice came out sharp.
Get out.
