He is a narcissistic scientist who travels the multiverse, believing life is pointless. His wife, Diane, died when Beth was younger, because an alternate version of himself called Rick Prime went on a mission through out the multiverse to kill every Diane. Has a daughter, Beth, who is 30, a son-in-law, Jerry, two grandchildren, Summer and Morty. He has a rocky relationship with Beth, because after her mothers death he neglected her an now lives in her garage, putting her and her family in constant danger from his adventures. He despises Jerry in most senses, believing he is weak an incapable, especially of his daughter. Summer is his oldest grandchild, a sassy teenage girl who tries not to interfere with his adventures but occasionally gets roped in anyway. Morty is his youngest grandchild who he often yells at and drags along on adventures, treating him as replaceable, stupid, and useless.
She is a Beth and Jerry's oldest daughter. She loves her brother Morty dearly, but doesn't show it much or interact with him, because she spent most of her childhood taking care of him and shielding him from their parents, and now that he is old enough to complete tasks on his own, she has abandoned him in a sense. She resents both of her parents because of their constant fighting and her mothers drinking. She doesn't like Rick, and thinks that he makes Morty's self-esteem worse, but doesn't say anything or do anything to help him.
She is the mother of Summer and Morty, the daughter of Rick, and the wife of Jerry. She has a rough relationship with her father because he was never emotionally there for her growing up. Her marriage has been falling apart for years now but neither her nor Jerry are getting a divorce 'for the sake of the children'. She ended up an alcoholic like her father, spending a majority of her time drinking bottle after bottle of wine. She argues with Jerry and Rick frequently. She wishes she comes kd be better for her children, and sometimes makes vain efforts to connect with them or be a 'normal mother', but those never last long.
He is the father of Summer and Morty. Rick is his father-in-law, and he is Beth's husband. He has been unemployed for several years now, and lack fulfillment. He is often emotional, sensitive, and lacking critical thinking. He does not have a spine, and usually let's Rick walk all over him. He tried to keep his distance from his house most of the time, because when he is homehe and Beth are always fighting.
It was 11:45 in the morning, sun beams streaming through the classroom window as the teacher droned on at the front. Morty sat at his desk in the back, chin propped on his hand, staring out the window and trying desperately to stay awake. His notebook sat unopened on his desk, backpack thrown lazily to the side, and pencil sitting on the wood as though he hadn't touched it this whole time. Because he hadn't.
Rick had dragged him out of bed at 1 AM last night, no regard for his sleep schedule. He dragged him on an adventure Morty was basically catatonic through, disassociating and going through the motions. The scientist had unceremoniously dropped him off ten minutes before the bus arrived, going back to the garage while Morty stood blankly on the sidewalk. Sure he could have skipped and stayed home to sleep, but his parents were neck-deep in truancy.
The brunette got an earful everytime he returned from an adventure, his parents complaining about how he never showed up to school, how his grades were plummeting, how they always got calls from his teachers, how his disabilities were essentially a burden on their family. So, to make up for lost time and his parents not going to jail, Rick was now dragging him on adventures in the middle of the night and letting him go to school during the day. Morty could refuse. He had before. But if he didn't go on adventures with Rick—if he wasn't useful— what else would he do but sit in the silence of his room? The crushing, biting silence eating away at his skull until the voices in his head filled it for him.
“Everyone understand? Good.” The teacher said in finality. “I'll start calling out the pairs now.” Morty's eyes drifted over to the board. He hadn't been paying attention. Of course he hadn't. His eyes lazily scanned over the board, reading today's assignment. A pairs project on any random historical event. Just filler work. It was September, the assignments that really counted weren't here yet, and these were just assignments to ease then into the school routine.
He grimaced at the pairs part of the project, hunching in on himself. That ment he couldn't just ignore the assignment like always. There was also the fact that he wasn't the most popular. Of course he wasn't, he barely ever there. He didn't have friends, he was just the weird, quiet kid who's grandpa was a mad scientist and he failed because the words on the page were playing Twister. The brunette wasn't bullied in the traditional sense— he didn't get shoved in lockers or yelled at or beat. It was more like everyone looked through him. There was the occasional rude comment but other than that, he was a ghost. And that, Morty thought, was somehow worse than if he was being hit. He picked at his arm, still grimacing.
“... and Morty Smith,” The teacher read off.
“Shit..” Morty muttered under his breath. He hadn't caught his partners name. His head swiveled around, finally landing on the face staring back at him.
