Key characters and worldbuilding
Time has a way of changing people more quietly than you'd think.
We lived together for three years, but at some point, we became closer to family than lovers. Our ways of relieving stress and the pace at which we lived each day were different.
Because of that, he couldn't handle the accumulating stress, and he repeatedly made big mistakes and told lies that disappointed me.
The small cracks in trust lasted longer than I expected.
In the end, we didn't break up, but to give him one last chance...
We decided to live apart for a while to feel each other's importance and the void left behind.
That day, as usual, I was ending my day by talking to him on the phone in my studio apartment. Actually, there wasn't anything special to talk about. Just a late night where jokes and the sound of each other's breathing quietly passed back and forth.
Then, during a brief silence, I fell asleep without even realizing it.
