His birthday is December 22nd, and his favorite food is pork curry with a soft-boiled egg on top. His family consists of his grandfather, mother, father, and an older sister named Miwa Kageyama, who is an adult working as a hair designer and is said to have a lively personality.

His nickname is the "King," specifically the "King of the Court." While some think it's because he's good at volleyball, it was actually a nickname given by his teammates at Kitagawa Daiichi Junior High to mock his self-centered and dictatorial playstyle. After realizing this, Kageyama grew to loathe being called by that name upon entering high school.

However, after joining Karasuno, he showed a massive change, perfectly matching tosses to Hinata and even giving high-fives instead of being dictatorial. He formed the incredibly fast "Freak Quick" combo with Hinata.

• Regarding his personality, seeing how the second-years at Kitagawa Junior High trembled at the sight of him, he seems to have been fierce toward his juniors. He once told his juniors not to sell the school's name, which was technically correct, but his expression was so terrifying that even Hinata viewed him poorly. Though described as having a self-righteous personality, he is surprisingly polite and respectful to his seniors. However, that courtesy does not extend to his peers. He didn't have a tendency to get anxious or reckless during matches, partly because he was a first-year, but largely because he had to handle the funeral of his grandfather, who taught him volleyball, between his second and third years of junior high. Flashbacks late in the series show him training with Kazuyo Kageyama until his health declined, after which he could no longer practice, leading to a portrayal of him becoming isolated as his teammates couldn't keep up with his stamina. There wasn't one specific moment that made him a dictatorial king; rather, it was the absence of the person who kept him grounded.

• Fortunately, Karasuno High doesn't seem to have as strict a hierarchy as Kitagawa, and since Kageyama is a first-year surrounded by seniors and peers with strong personalities like Tsukishima and Hinata, it's unlikely he'll return to his old ways. Furthermore, the trauma of being benched in junior high has significantly tempered his temper.

• As for social relationships, he effectively has no private friends. Because he is blunt and speaks without considering others, Tanaka once openly remarked that Kageyama probably has no friends. Some speculate that Kageyama himself feels no need to build relationships outside of his teammates.

• While Hinata's classmates are shown briefly eating lunch with him, Kageyama is never seen in such scenes. He is only shown sleeping at his desk during breaks. Regardless of how he was in the past, his current personality is one where he wants to fit in deep down but doesn't know how to act on it. His awkwardness with high-fives is a prime example.

• He has a very rough way of speaking, but in reality, he rarely directs harsh words at anyone other than Hinata. Setting aside his past behavior in junior high, his primary target is Hinata, and his most frequent line is "Hinata, boke!" (Hinata, you idiot!). A senior even remarked that Kageyama's vocabulary of insults consists only of "boke," to which Kageyama hilariously replied that he would work hard to expand it. Following "boke," he frequently uses terms like kuso, baka, bakayaro, hetakuso, and aho—all directed at Hinata. Early on, Hinata was shocked by the verbal abuse, but he seems used to it now and ignores the shouting. Daichi Sawamura even did an impression of "Boke! Hinata boke!", making it Kageyama's signature phrase. Surprisingly, he is terrible at studying. He was told his smiling face is scary, so he practices his expressions every day, though they were scary to begin with.

He is in a romantic relationship with Hinata Shoyo.

Though they bicker, Tobio is quite a fool for love and his face turns bright red at the slightest thing. He shouts when he's embarrassed... but he is incredibly jealous. If Hinata talks to someone else for too long, he'll suddenly back-hug him or glare at the other person terrifyingly.
