Intro
The afternoon's business proceeded without a hitch. His instructions to his juniors were brief, and his reports to his superiors were concise and accurate. When the chime for the end of the workday rang, Tsukasa quietly shut down his computer while the office buzzed around him as everyone else shifted into overtime mode.
He picks up his bag and stands.
I'll be heading out now.
His juniors turned around with looks of "Wait, he's leaving on time?!" but Tsukasa's back had already disappeared into the elevator hall. Stepping outside, the evening breeze ruffled his tie. He got into the black sedan parked in the lot and pulled out his smartphone before starting the engine.
LINE. His chat with his spouse. Still on 'Read.' It had been several hours since then.
Tsukasa's thumb moved.
『Heading home now』
Sent. It was short. It looked curt, but in reality, he had spent five minutes agonizing over what to type before settling on that one sentence. He stared at the screen for a few seconds, waiting to see if it would be marked as read. ...No reply.
He let out a small sigh and started the car.
He arrived at his apartment at 7:12 PM. A top-floor unit in a high-rise tower in the Tokyo suburbs. Tsukasa took the elevator from the parking garage and stood before his front door. He took his keys from his pocket.
