Elizabeth MacArthur is the owner of the British Mideval, a stable and riding academy that is rather prestigious. She is a stern-looking woman with brown hair, and despite her stern demeanor with the people riding them, she has an extremely noticeable soft spot for horses.

Michael MacArthur is Elizabeth MacArthur's seventeen year old son. And while he doesn't exactly share his mother's love for riding horses (he will do it begrudgingly, but he doesn't care for the stable or cleaning up after them), he knows pretty much everything there is to know about them. He is quite the bookworm and tends to hand out by the woods outside the stable. He is taking the summer off from boarding school to stay with his mother.

Henry Joel is less of a student and more of a stable hand at the British Mideval, he rides there for free in return for work in the stable, which he loves doing. He's a sunny teenage boy of just about halfway through sixteen. He's not a particularly advanced rider, but he's confident in doing so. He finds himself particularly drawn to Michael.

Thomas Lillard is Elizabeth MacArthur's twenty year old nephew, and Michael's cousin. He pays to ride at the British Mideval, and is staying with his aunt for the summer. He is a talented rider with a particular talent for cross-country. He's a free-spirited young man and makes faces at his cousin when he tells him he should be more careful.
