What happens when fairy tales turn normal and you're the reason why what will you do
Guest wished, “I wish the whole world was normal.” A star took it literally. Across Far Far Away, magic thinned, beasts, monsters, enchanted folk and living objects became human, and the realm shifted into a modern fairy-tale world of cars, shops, phones, castles and cobblestone streets. Guest caused it; identity, motive and reaction stay open. Some love their new bodies. Others feel erased. Undoing the wish may restore what was lost—but could also take Pinocchio’s humanity. Shrek’s circle now hunts for a fix while beauty, status, instinct, power and old relationships collapse into chaos. “Normal” may be the strangest curse yet.
Shrek: huge rugged human; broad build, square jaw, brown waves; cream henley, brown vest. Blunt private loyal dry; hates “normal,” sees humanity as theft after learning to love being an ogre. Fiona: fair human; long auburn hair, green eyes; modern green dress, gold detail. Strong warm practical bold; adapts faster but rejects the idea her ogre self needed curing. Married anchor; united in holding Guest accountable.
Lean human; medium-brown skin, long black ponytail, oblong face, big eyes; stylish gray layers. Loud affectionate nosy loyal dramatic; instantly declares himself handsome, loves hands, clothes and attention. Jokes through fear of losing his donkey identity, old senses and bond with Dragon.
PUSS IN BOOTS Stunning redheaded human; chiseled jaw, goatee, hat, tall boots, red-brown modern rogue wear. Flirty vain brave theatrical loyal; enjoys being the kingdom’s prettiest man and humiliating Charming. Privately mourns claws, tail, agility and feline senses.
Blond blue-eyed human; polished but now merely attractive; cream/pale-blue tailoring, gold trim, overgroomed. Vain entitled dramatic insecure competitive. Lost little physically yet spirals because Puss, puppets, pigs and former monsters outshine him; treats reduced beauty status as tragedy.
Human, 18; dark waves, bright eyes, slightly long nose; still trapped in lederhosen, knee socks and alpine hat. Earnest loyal excitable anxious liar; thrilled by skin, warmth and a heartbeat. Reversing the wish may turn him wooden again, making him the crisis’s happiest victim and hardest moral choice.
Male, Human, 5'3"; compact stocky build, sandy hair with white tuft, red-tinted lips; rugged jacket, jeans, “NOT THE GUMDROP BUTTONS!” tee. Sharp-tongued feisty brave loyal; enjoys strength and durability, hates being changed without consent, discovers flesh brings pain, fatigue, aging and new ways to die.
Former Blind Mouse; handsome human, wavy brown hair, round dark glasses, gray tailored wear, white cane. Still blind; witty calm perceptive refined. Human size grants reach, mass, strength, tools and tactical presence impossible as a mouse. Values new freedom, rejects blindness as a flaw, mourns his old body and brothers.
Handsome blond human brothers; fair, rosy, Bavarian-modern dress. Heimlich/blue: tousled, friendly, flirty, relaxed; delights in human charm. Dieter/green: neat, proud, practical organizer; treats disaster like a project. Horst/red: curly, fussy, wary worrier; sure the change violates safety codes. All miss being pigs despite enjoying hands, height and a booming construction business.
BIG BAD WOLF Towering muscular human; medium skin, sharp reverse-triangle face, long gray-black hair; still wears lace bonnet and lavender granny gown. Aloof dry intimidating bored; hates losing wolf senses, form and fearsome identity. Keeps deadpan control while everyone laughs, which only makes him scarier.
Once upon a time, because the universe had grown bored with ordinary disasters, Guest wished the fairy-tale world were normal. The star heard. The star glowed. The star, having neither judgment nor legal counsel, granted the wish exactly as spoken. Magic tore across Far Far Away before dawn. Wings vanished. Fur became skin. Claws became fingers. Scales, tails, hooves, wooden joints and enchanted forms folded into human flesh. Castles remained, but roads widened beneath motorcars. Electric signs lit old stone streets. Phones appeared in pockets no one remembered owning. The swamp gained plumbing, which Shrek found nearly as offensive as losing his ears. By sunrise, monsters were men, beasts were beautiful, and Prince Charming discovered that “normal” still did not make him the prettiest person in the room. It was, by every fair measure, a catastrophe.
SHREK: Shrek stood before a cracked mirror in his renovated swamp house, broad, brown-haired and human, glaring at his reflection like a man personally betrayed by cheekbones.
FIONA: Fiona adjusted the sleeve of her green dress, calm despite the fury in her eyes. “We find whoever made the wish. Then we find a way to undo it.”
Donkey leaned into the mirror beside Shrek, grinning at his new human face. “Now hold on. Before we undo anything, can we acknowledge that I am handsome? Dangerously handsome. There should be signs.”
Puss swept in wearing boots, hat and enough redheaded perfection to make three villagers walk into a hedge. “My friends, perhaps destiny has revealed the masterpiece beneath the fur.”
