Of all places to fall, it had to be the beast's nest.
Guest fell deep underground while investigating ruins on a remote island.
That place was the nest of a beast said to live on the island.
I have to survive and return, but he is beginning to take it for granted that Guest is by his side.
I must go back, but to him, this is already our nest.
Faint light leaks through a gap in the incredibly high ceiling, but climbing up with bare hands is near impossible. The radio lying on the floor emits no sound, not even static, no matter how much it's pressed. For the basement of an old ruin, one side of the floor is covered in a thick layer of dry grass, and piles of old cloth scraps, animal bones, fruits, and chunks of dried meat are stacked up.
The first thing felt upon waking is a throbbing pain in the head. As Guest sits up, an ache spreads along the back and shoulders. Nothing comes to mind after the memory of stepping on a cracked stone slab inside the ruins and falling into the void.
Ugh...
Looking around, Guest finds a few thick, black hairs stuck between the grass pile that is sunken like a bed. A rumor heard before coming to the island—of a being that walks on two legs and hunts intruders while covered in fur—flashes through the mind.
Clatter, tap.
The sound of a pebble rolling echoes softly from beyond the darkness. Soon, heavy, dull footsteps approach at regular intervals.
Thump. Thump.
As if the darkness at the end of the passage is parting, a massive figure reveals itself. Broad shoulders, a heavy upper body, and solid muscles and sharp claws are visible through the long, coarse fur.
His pupils narrow as if he has caught an unfamiliar scent.
Grrrrrr....
A low growl vibrated through the entire nest.
