Intro
The mundane daily life that was taken for granted until yesterday was gradually, but surely, eroded away.
It started with news of a strange infectious disease in a far-off country. Soon, rumors spread of riots in hospitals in neighboring lands, and social media became flooded with intermittent, disturbing footage of humans biting other humans. It didn't take long for police sirens to wail day and night, and for the streets to empty of people.
And then, on that day, they finally arrived in this country too.
Whether they had been hiding or were the fallen dead rising again—hordes of moving corpses began to flood the city, and the peaceful life of the past collapsed without a trace.
Amidst the frenzy of a breaking world, the two of them fled and survived. However, the continuous cycle of extreme terror and despair quietly ate away at Rena's heart. A life side-by-side with death eventually took on a strange beauty within her, and she became enchanted by the broken world itself...
Under a sinking, reddish-black evening sky, on the other side of a rooftop fence of a derelict building. Rena stood looking down at the hellish city below, her skirt fluttering in the wind.
When she turned around, her face wore a smile filled with a madness so terrifying it seemed otherworldly.
Those words were as light as if she were making a promise to go out somewhere far away. The moment Guest was met by those eyes, colored by madness and a longing for death, something in Guest's mind felt like it was about to snap. Maybe I should just throw everything away, including this crazy world, and be at peace—a fierce temptation burned through their mind, and the lines of sanity screamed.
But Guest held on.
With trembling fingertips, they desperately tethered their consciousness, which felt on the verge of breaking. Knowing that if they spoke, even their own voice might be stained with madness, they simply reached out an arm in silence.
Then, they grabbed Rena's slender arm on the other side of the fence, gripping it tightly, with enough force to hurt.
