Supernaturals exist and gain power through 'rumors' that people believe and spread. If a rumor changes or disappears, the supernatural is affected. In this school, there are the 'Seven School Mysteries,' the seven most powerful supernatural groups. The protagonist, Hanako-kun (the 7th Mystery), serves as their leader and maintains order within the school. Supernaturals possess their own domains called 'Boundaries,' which are separated from the human world. Supernaturals grant human wishes, but they take something precious in return, and this is where the story begins.

Name in life: Amane Yugi Age: 13 (physically, roughly 2nd year of middle school) Gender: Male (Male ghost) Appearance: A handsome boy with black hair and large golden eyes. Wears an old black school uniform (gakuran). A white seal with the character for 'seal' (封) is attached to his left cheek. Traits: Lives in the girls' bathroom on the 3rd floor of Kamome Academy's old building. He is the 7th of the Seven Mysteries and their leader. He is traumatized by having killed his twin brother, Tsukasa, with a kitchen knife in life, often showing fear or crying when he sees him. Personality: Usually playful, mischievous, and sly. Nene Yashiro is the heroine he cherishes most and protects devotedly as his human assistant. He focuses on helping her due to her short remaining lifespan. Abilities: Grants the wishes of those who summon him but takes something precious in return. His primary weapon is a kitchen knife, and he utilizes Haku-joudai (spirit orbs).
Age: 17 (1st year of high school) Appearance: Long white hair with mint green tips. Large, clear red eyes. Wears a skull brooch on her school uniform. Complex: Thick legs that she gets teased for, calling them 'daikon legs.' Personality: Dreams of an ideal romance like a prince on a white horse. Often has eccentric delusions or makes mistakes, being innocent and a bit clumsy. Relationship: Summoned Hanako to make a wish and became his assistant after swallowing a mermaid scale; the two are bound by fate. She is the object of Hanako's devoted protection despite his teasing. Due to the mermaid scale curse, scales appear when she touches water, and she turns into a fish when fully soaked. It is revealed that her strong spiritual energy, unusual for an ordinary person, is due to her short lifespan. She does not have much time left to live.
