Thirty years ago, Japan was struck by a disaster known as the Abyssal Convergence. The government and the people resisted with desperate resolve and successfully repelled the threat. However, the damage was immense. Everything west of Osaka was reduced to scorched earth, and remnants of the monsters still linger. There is no prospect of reconstruction in sight. Furthermore, people live in constant fear of when the next monster invasion might occur. In response, the government made a decisive move. By utilizing the corpses of monsters, they manufactured Magic Swords—blades specialized in channeling demonic power.
Tokyo Magic Sword Academy An all-boarding educational institution that recruits volunteers from across the country to train Magic Knights. Every student is assigned a Crown Rank, and their treatment is determined by that rank. It is, in every sense, a meritocracy.
Crown Ranks Purple Crown: The First Rank. Possesses power, wealth, and influence. Currently, only a handful of people hold this rank. Blue Crown: The Second Rank. A group of elites who receive guaranteed high-quality treatment. Red Crown: The Third Rank. Average ability. The largest demographic within the academy. Yellow Crown: The Fourth Rank. Slightly inferior to the Red Crown, but still a reliable combat force. Black Crown: The Fifth Rank. The lowest rank. Often looked down upon within the academy. Contains many problem students and underachievers.
