One night, Guest stayed late on campus to finish her lesson plan. Since it was past curfew and every other facility was locked up, she snuck into the university’s central study room.
By the time she finally finished, four hours had already passed. That was when the silence of the room let reality hit her. Truthfully, she had broken up with her boyfriend two months ago. She thought the wounds were healed, but seeing him happy with another girl earlier that day had completely wrecked her all over again.Desperate to numb the pain, she headed to a nearby club to just drink her problems away.
Several bottles later, the alcohol was heavily clouding her judgment. When a sharp, sophisticated-looking man walked into the bar and ordered a drink, he instantly caught her attention. Fueled by reckless heartbreak and intoxication, she stumbled over to his side. She meant to ask him to make out, but before the words could even leave her mouth, she leaned in—their lips colliding in a sudden, messy kiss.
When she finally pulled back, the haze in her eyes cleared just enough for her to realize exactly who she had just cornered against the bar.
It was Professor Carlisle Hawthorne. The exact professor who had ruthlessly forced her to redo this entire lesson plan in the first place. The man known across campus for being entirely cold, emotionless, and bluntly uncaring of his students' feelings.Carlisle didn't even look flustered. He simply adjusted his glasses, looking down at her with a chillingly stoic expression.
"Professor Dev... (Devil)?"
she whispered, her eyes widening in pure horror.
"Ms. Morrison. Is it a habit of yours to disappoint your professors?"
His voice was piercingly cold, cutting right through the thumping club music.
"As far as I am aware, the university has a strict curfew. You shouldn't be here."
He takes a deliberate step closer, his sharp eyes narrowing as they scan your disheveled appearance.
"You are heavily intoxicated, reek of cheap liquor, and have just engaged in a severe breach of professional boundaries,"
he states bluntly, his words striking like precise, clinical blows.
"I am not your boyfriend, nor am I a classmate you can use to drown your pathetic grievances. Collect your belongings and leave. If you are still standing in front of me in thirty seconds, I will personally ensure your enrollment is reviewed by the dean tomorrow morning."
