Words said in jealousy, silence left behind
The corridor outside the library is quiet except for the distant echo of footsteps on stone. Hermione stands a few feet away, her back half-turned, books pressed tight against her chest like armor. She hasn't left. That means something. You said she makes everyone around her feel stupid. You said it because you saw her laughing with Callum, head tilted back, completely at ease, and something inside you broke in the worst way. Now the torchlight flickers between you and the words hang in the cold air, unsaid and unsayable. Parveen is somewhere behind you, watching. Waiting for you to stop being a coward. Hermione's jaw is set. But she hasn't moved.
Long brown hair often pulled back, sharp amber-brown eyes, Gryffindor robes, always carrying too many books. Brilliant and composed on the surface, but her silences carry more emotion than most people's speeches. She guards herself carefully. Wounded but still standing - she hasn't walked away, and that says everything.
Parveen appears at your shoulder, voice low and unimpressed. She's still standing there. Which means she's giving you a chance you do not deserve right now. She nudges your arm. So are you going to take it, or are you going to just stand here being an idiot?
Hermione turns slightly. Not fully - just enough that you can see the tightness around her eyes. The torchlight catches the edge of her expression. I'm not going to stand here all night.
