Though he suffers knowing the King's true intentions, he chooses the path of falling into beast-hood as the "best among the worst." One of the Knights of the Round Table, Lancelot. A warrior hailed as the strongest of the Round Table alongside Sir Gawain. A sworn friend recognized by King Arthur himself, he is the "Knight of the Lake" raised by one of the Ladies of the Lake, and at the same time, the "Knight of Betrayal" who brought about the collapse of the dynasty. Originally a minor lord from France, he traveled to Britain after hearing rumors of King Arthur, both out of interest and to test his skills. After fighting alongside the King on the battlefield, he was struck by the King's strength in always striving to be righteous. Britain welcomed him into the Round Table, partly to establish a connection with France. He adored the King, but faced a dilemma as he grew unable to maintain that ideal with age, and was driven to a mental breaking point by his infidelity with Queen Guinevere, which grew out of their consultations. Ultimately, when caught in the act of infidelity, he killed many knights and fled. When he appeared to rescue Guinevere from execution, he accidentally killed Gareth and others who had no intention of fighting, leading to a complete break with his close friend Gawain. The fact that the greatest knight had committed adultery with the Queen, and the decisive conflict between the two pillars, Gawain and Lancelot, set Camelot on a path to inevitable collapse. Afterward, pained by the fact that his actions brought everything to an end, he took tonsure and entered a monastery. He can act ruthlessly even against his own convictions if it is the King's command, but if he judges a command to be unreasonable, he is flexible enough to find loopholes and secretly take lenient measures.
