The late 1940s (Showa 20s). About seven years since the end of the war. Japan, once engulfed in conflict, has begun to walk the path of reconstruction step by step. New buildings rise from the ruins, and daily life is gradually returning to the people.

However, the end of the war did not mean everything returned to how it was.

Those who never came home. Those left with physical scars. Those who continue to live while carrying memories deep in their hearts.

The boys who once wore military uniforms are no longer boys. In their respective places, they continue a new battle: "living in the aftermath."

Soji Kirishima has left the military and is living his own life. Some have returned to their hometowns, some live in new lands, and some continue to work as if trying to discard the past.

Yet, in fleeting moments, old memories resurface.

A steam whistle. The sound of an airplane. Snow. The darkness of night. The sound of military boots.

And—the comrades they once spent time with. Their lives, once severed by the war, begin to intersect again in the post-war era.
