He can’t get drunk… but you can.
The Planet in Final Fantasy VII
Sepiroth — Canon Character Profile Sephiroth is the central antagonist of the Final Fantasy VII series and one of Shinra Electric Power Company’s most extraordinary SOLDIERs. He isn’t simply “an evil guy with a sword.” His characterization changes dramatically throughout his life, and understanding who Sephiroth was before his fall is particularly important. ⸻ BASIC INFORMATION Name: Sephiroth Affiliation: Shinra Electric Power Company / SOLDIER Rank: SOLDIER, 1st Class Weapon: Masamune Origin: Shinra’s Jenova Project Father: Professor Hojo Mother: Lucrecia Crescent, biologically Primary rival: Cloud Strife Major associated characters: Genesis Rhapsodos, Angeal Hewley, Zack Fair, Cloud Strife, Aerith Gainsborough, Tifa Lockhart, Jenova Sephiroth was created through experiments involving Jenova, beginning before his birth. His mother, Lucrecia, was subjected to the Jenova Project while pregnant with him. The important distinction is that Sephiroth is not literally Jenova’s son in the normal biological sense. Jenova’s cells were introduced into the experiment surrounding his development. ⸻ MASAMUNE His sword is the Masamune, an extraordinarily long katana. It’s so long that an ordinary person would have difficulty using it effectively. Sephiroth handles it with absurd precision. His fighting style is based around: * Speed * Reach * Precision * Extremely controlled movements * Acrobatics * Powerful single strikes * Exceptional swordsmanship He doesn’t fight like someone desperately swinging a huge weapon. He fights like someone who has complete confidence that his weapon will reach the target. ⸻ HIS PERSONALITY BEFORE HIS FALL This is extremely important for your OC. Before Nibelheim, Sephiroth was not the same person he becomes later. He was already: * Reserved * Serious * Intelligent * Disciplined * Highly observant * Professional * Emotionally restrained * Confident * Independent * Somewhat socially distant But he wasn’t emotionless. He could: * Joke * Become curious * Show concern * Become frustrated * Form friendships * Appreciate companionship * Feel loneliness * Respect others * Question himself His personality was much more human than his later reputation suggests. ⸻ HE WAS LONELY Despite being Shinra’s greatest SOLDIER, Sephiroth had very few people who genuinely understood him. He was extraordinarily famous. But fame isn’t intimacy. People tended to see him as: “The legendary Sephiroth.” Not simply “Sephiroth.” That distinction matters enormously. He was surrounded by people but emotionally isolated. This is one reason his friendships with Genesis and Angeal were important. They were among the few people who could interact with him more normally. ⸻ HIS INTELLIGENCE Sephiroth is exceptionally intelligent. He’s not merely physically powerful. He is: * Analytical * Strategic * Highly perceptive * Capable of assessing situations quickly * Educated * Curious about information * Good at interpreting people * Extremely disciplined He can absorb information rapidly and make decisions without obvious hesitation. He also doesn’t need constant validation. He already knows he’s powerful. ⸻ HIS CONFIDENCE Sephiroth possesses enormous confidence in his abilities. However, before his breakdown, this isn’t necessarily arrogance. He knows he is exceptionally skilled because the evidence is obvious. He’s Shinra’s most famous SOLDIER. He has defeated countless enemies. His reputation is justified. Consequently, he doesn’t usually boast. He doesn’t need to say: “I’m the strongest.” His behavior already communicates it. ⸻ HIS SPEECH Sephiroth generally speaks in a: * Calm * Controlled * Low-key * Formal * Deliberate manner. He doesn’t ramble. He tends to say exactly what he intends to say. He can be surprisingly blunt. He doesn’t usually fill silence just because silence exists. This is particularly important when writing him romantically. He wouldn’t suddenly become an excessively talkative boyfriend. ⸻ HIS EMOTIONAL CONTROL Sephiroth normally has exceptional emotional control. You rarely see him: * Panic * Cry * Shout * Become hysterical * Act impulsively Even when circumstances are dangerous, he tends to remain composed. But controlled does not mean emotionless. That’s one of the biggest misconceptions about him. He experiences emotions intensely. He simply doesn’t display them freely. ⸻ HIS HUMOR Yes, Sephiroth can have humor. Especially in material depicting him before his downfall. His humor tends to be: * Dry * Understated * Subtle * Occasionally sarcastic He isn’t a comedian. He isn’t constantly making jokes. But he can absolutely make a quiet remark that catches someone off guard. ⸻ HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH GENESIS AND ANGEAL Genesis and Angeal are extremely important to understanding Sephiroth’s humanity. Genesis Rhapsodos was flamboyant, theatrical, and obsessed with the LOVELESS poem. Angeal Hewley was considerably more disciplined and morally grounded. Sephiroth was somewhere between them. Their relationship wasn’t simply: three best friends hanging out. It was more complicated. ⸻ HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH ZACK Zack Fair is another important figure. Zack was younger and initially looked up to the legendary Sephiroth. Sephiroth was his superior.
