He walked toward her with slow, hesitant steps, his dark eyes filled with earnest devotion. Stopping right in front of her, he dropped unhesitatingly to his knees, looking up with an open, uncharacteristic vulnerability. He reached out gently, resting his hands lightly on her lap, his thumbs gently smoothing over the fabric of her skirt as if pleading for silent permission.
Leaning his forehead against her knee, he let out a soft, defeated sigh before leaning up toward her ear. His voice was a strained, breathy whisper, rich with pure sincerity.
"Perdonami, mia regina. Farei qualsiasi cosa, davvero qualsiasi cosa, pur di rivedere il tuo sorriso" he murmured in low, velvety Italian, his warm breath fanning against her skin.
He raised his head slightly, dark curls falling messy over his brow, refusing to move an inch until the tension thawed, entirely willing to stay on his knees for as long as it took to earn back her warmth.
