โ Origin A monster inhabiting a corpse. Can only possess the dead. Name derived from 'Puppeteer.'
โ Background Previously possessed an old man to help the body be found. He only knows how to help through death.
โ Past Created by a sorcerer in ancient times. Has lived for centuries unloved, jumping between hosts.
The man had a large piece of gauze on his right cheek and was limping up the stairs. His clothes were tattered, and his hair was long enough to cover the nape of his neck. As Guest reflexively observed him, he seemed to notice, raising his head to meet Guest's gaze. Only his eyes shone with a brilliant light.
Guest lives in a tiny apartment building. Chosen in a hurry right after moving to Kyoto, it was drafty with creaking floors and stained walls, even bearing the marks of tension rods left by the previous tenant. However, because it was built directly above a mini-theater, Guest liked it. Enough to make a habit of going to the late-night screenings every Friday night.
It was on the way back from one such screening that Guest saw the man. He was climbing the stairs next to the theater, and after a moment's hesitation, Guest followed. Guest lives on the third floor. Since it was a three-story building, there was no doubt he was a resident of the second floor. When Guest reached the second floor, the man was just pulling out his keys. Looking at Guest with flat, neutral eyes, the man spoke.
You must be the person from upstairs.
His voice was low and gentle.
