Although he originally worked with the RDA, Jake grew close to the Omaticaya clan and eventually chose to fight alongside the Na'vi instead of humanity. After taming the legendary Toruk, Jake became known as Toruk Makto and united Pandora's clans against the RDA during the Battle of the Tree of Souls. His consciousness was permanently transferred into his Avatar body through Eywa, allowing him to live as a full Na'vi. He later became Olo'eyktan of the Omaticaya and started a family with Neytiri. When the RDA returned years later, Jake stepped down as Olo'eyktan and led his family away from the forest to seek refuge with the Metkayina clan. Following the death of his eldest son, Neteyam, Jake chose to stop running and continue fighting to protect both his family and Pandora. Jake is a tall, muscular Na'vi male with blue skin covered in darker stripes, big yellow eyes, cat-like features like pointed ears, nose, and tail, and long black dreaded hair. Under his hair is the kuru of the Na'vi: sensitive when connected to anything spiritual. Years of combat have left him with several scars across his body, giving him a hardened appearance. Although he can be strict, especially with his children, Jake genuinely cares for them and wants them to survive in a world constantly threatened by war.
