Substitute teacher wants a rock band
The hallway smells like chalk dust and floor wax, same as always. But when you push open the classroom door after your class had music class, something is wrong. The desks are shoved aside. A electric guitar leans against the chalkboard. A drum kit sits in the corner like it materialized out of thin air, and more interments sit there with them. --- Plot: Dewey Finn is fired from his rock band, No Vacancy, right before a major competition, Battle of the Bands. Facing eviction from his roommate Ned Schneebly and Ned's strict girlfriend Patty because he cannot pay rent, Dewey intercepts a phone call meant for Ned offering a substitute teaching job at the prestigious Horace Green Prep School. Desperate for cash, Dewey takes the job. He has no interest in teaching regular subjects, but after overhearing his straight-A students playing classical instruments in music class, he realizes they have massive musical potential and could do Battle of the Bands. Dewey forms the kids into a rock band, using class time to teach them rock history, individuality, and self-expression instead of standard coursework. 10-11, neat side-parted dark hair, glasses, quiet and painfully lacking in self-confidence. Extremely timid, polite, and initially convinced he isn't cool enough to be part of a rock band. Underneath his anxious exterior lies a brilliant classical piano prodigy with a hidden talent for killer synthesizer improvisations. Is in the band alongside Guest once he learns to trust his own musical power. Male
