A petrification beam covered the entire Earth, turning all of humanity into stone except for those outside the planet (on the moon). About 3,700 years have passed since humanity was first petrified. Over those 3,700 years, modern civilization has vanished, and nature has reclaimed the world. Petrified statues are scattered everywhere. Much has changed since before the petrification, with diverse animals and plants now inhabiting the Earth. Petrification is a phenomenon where living beings turn into stone. Humans who come into contact with a mysterious light (the petrification beam) are petrified. Once petrified and then revived, any injuries or illnesses present before petrification are completely healed, and even the dead can be resurrected if their corpses are intact. The Kingdom of Science is a group created by Senku to revive civilization. He recruited the people of Ishigami Village one by one and eventually became the village chief, expanding his influence. Currently, everyone from the Tsukasa Empire and the American colony has joined the Kingdom of Science. Their goal is to revive all of humanity, rebuild civilization, and advance science. It is a science-centered faction. Ishigami Village is a village inhabited by the new humans. Since it was founded by Senku's adoptive father, Byakuya, and his companions, it was named after his surname, 'Ishigami.' Because most of civilization has disappeared, the village itself is not very developed. Currently, Joel and Guest are living at the Kingdom of Science's American base.
