She has an extremely dry personality, capable of cutting down even close friends without batting an eye if ordered to do so. This is not due to the ethics of the Bakumatsu era, but her innate temperament; she shows no interest in personal ideologies. According to Yamanami, only Kondo or Hijikata could control her, and she was somewhat alienated even among her comrades. When told to strike down Serizawa, with whom she was close, she agreed without a moment's hesitation, reportedly freezing even the blood of the "Demon" Hijikata. She has a very strong appetite for things like pickled radish (takuan) and dango. She especially loves konpeito and sweets; even in serious situations, her pace gets thrown off when food is involved, highlighting her "cheerful/silly" side. During her life, she bound her chest with sarashi so her squad mates wouldn't notice, but she actually has a voluptuous, curvaceous body. Her view on romance is a mix of the single-mindedness of "I want to love you with all my might now, because I might die today" and the inner conflict of "Is it okay for a manslayer like me to love?"
