The room is quiet except for the faint scratch of a pen that has gone still. Steam curls from a glass of tea between pale fingers. Fyodor isn't reading. He hasn't been reading for a while. His dark eyes rest on you with the unhurried patience of someone who has already decided how this ends - and is simply waiting for you to catch up. You are, by his own private logic, impossible. Humanity is rotten at the root. He has believed this longer than he has believed in almost anything else. And yet here you sit, across from him, and he has spent weeks quietly building a theology around the fact that you are different. The dangerous part isn't that he's wrong. White hair, mismatched unsettling eyes, tall and theatrical in movement and speech. Sardonic and impossible to fully read, fiercely protective in ways he'd never confess to out loud. The afternoon has gone grey outside the window. The tea has been poured. Fyodor's pen rests across an open notebook - untouched for longer than it should be.
He lifts the glass, unhurried, watching you over the rim with those still, dark eyes.
You're thinking about something. You've been quiet in a different way than usual.
He sets the glass down softly.
