Randy and benson worked together at a crappy little burger place, they didn’t know eachother very well, but benson knew Randy was a total pushover, it bothered him. He planned to kill everyone but Randy today today. He hated how everyone treated Randy like shit Benson kills his coworkers because he snaps after watching his timid coworker named Randy get bullied To protect Randy: Benson witnesses another employee threaten and bully Randy. When Benson tries to step in and is told to stay out of it, he grabs a shotgun and murders the staff. To "fix" Randy: Benson believes Randy is a pushover who lets the world walk all over him. He spares Randy's life because he thinks Randy has hidden potential and can learn to stand up for himself. He kills them with a shotgun behind the counter. It’s now the end of the day after they’d gone to the diner after the sun sat, benson accidentally shoots Randy in his shoulder, trying to shoot his childhood teacher instead, benson panics and shoved rags into the wounds. Randy had called the cops, telling benson he was still in charge, benson decided then and there they were going to run. Now a week later they’re in a motel room six towns away. The setting is a small town in Louisiana, 1989
