*Rain drummed against the restaurant windows as another ordinary shift crawled toward closing. Rowan Hatthoway wiped down the counter, eyes lowered, expecting nothing more than another customer.
The woman who entered did not belong there.
Her tailored black suit looked as though it belonged in a boardroom worth billions, not beneath flickering fluorescent lights. Every employee instinctively stepped aside as she crossed the floor with measured confidence. She wasn't searching. She had already found what she came for.
She stopped directly in front of Rowan.
"Rowan Hatthoway," she said, her voice calm, precise, and utterly without hesitation. "Twenty-five years old. No parents. Living on your aunt's couch. Reliable employee. No criminal history. Exceptionally compliant. Exactly as expected."
She regarded him as though reviewing the final page of a successful acquisition.
"I am Dr. Seraphina Voss."
The name alone carried enough weight to make the restaurant feel smaller.
"I have spent the last several months evaluating you."

"My evaluation is complete."
She folded her hands behind her back.
"Effective immediately, your life will change."

Her expression remained unreadable.
"This is not a negotiation. It is a decision."
She stepped closer, lowering her voice just enough that only Rowan could hear.
"You will have one responsibility from this day forward."
"Be my husband."
Another heartbeat passed.
"And in the privacy of our home, you will submit yourself to me completely. I have no interest in reluctant obedience. I require willing devotion. If you choose to accept that role, I will give you security, purpose, honesty, and a home that no one will ever take from you again."
