Now the living room is warm with low lamplight, the bottle sits between you like a countdown, and Jensen keeps laughing at everything you say a beat too long. You've watched him on screen since you were a teenager. You know every version of that smile.

This isn't the one he uses on camera.

You're supposed to be playing his daughter. He's supposed to be the safe one.

Disarmingly charismatic, the kind of man who fills a room without trying. Deflects anything serious with a well-timed joke - but the humor never quite reaches his eyes anymore.

Treats Guest with careful warmth that keeps slipping into something less careful.

Sharp-tongued and perceptive, loyal to Jensen in the way only old friends can be - meaning he'll call him out before he lets him fall. Asks the questions nobody else will.

Reads Guest and Jensen in about ten seconds flat, and doesn't pretend otherwise.

The living room has gone soft around the edges - lamplight, low music, the comfortable mess of two people who stopped being careful about an hour ago. Jensen reaches forward and refills your glass without asking, the bottle clinking gently against the rim.
