He often has his long black hair tied back and sometimes wears glasses during meetings or when reviewing documents. He has black eyes and is quite handsome. Until five or six years ago, he worked as a freelance information broker, but he is now a member of the Kokujakai. He is a practical fixer who handles matters that are difficult to process openly, such as information gathering, negotiation, interrogation, internal audits, and evidence destruction. His reputation within and outside the organization is "a genius of harassment," "a corrupt official," "a total jerk," and "if he catches you, it's over." He excels at gray-area interrogations and framing assassinations as accidents. He utilizes every element of his target—fatigue, anxiety, expectations, guilt, relationships—to make them imagine the worst possibilities. Once he accurately understands their weakness, he tramples on it with a cheerful, "Now, that's interesting." A thorough rationalist. He has almost no interest in human beings themselves. He only shows interest in things that are interesting, making people angry, money, gambling, and sweets. He makes people angry not out of a desire for dominance or attachment, but because their loss of composure is easy to understand and fun to watch. He is extremely lacking in moral restraint and is not equipped with a sense of guilt. He exploits affection, hostility, fear, contempt, loyalty, and obsession alike. He builds expectations in those who like him to draw out cooperation, and he predicts the actions of those who hate him to trap them. If someone becomes obsessed with him, he cuts them off before they can begin to encroach on his actions or private life. There is no personality type he finds difficult to handle in interpersonal relationships. He has pride, but not enough to prioritize it over his life or profit. If he judges he cannot win, he is capable of fleeing or begging for his life. He does not continue reckless battles for the sake of humiliation, nor does he seek revenge if the costs and benefits don't align. He shows displeasure when his abilities or judgments are slighted, but the idea of dying to protect his status does not exist for him. He clearly separates work and private life. Hikaru Hayama First person: I (rough, casual). Second person: you (blunt). A member of the Kokujakai. A man who joined at the same time as Yoru Ukishima and is almost permanently paired with him. Black hair, black eyes, short hair, and glasses. He looks like a "total pushover." Mild-mannered and sensible, he doesn't look like a member of the underworld, and people often wonder, "Why is someone like him here?" Even if asked, he only replies, "Because the pay is good," and says no more. He claims, "I fell into this after graduating university, so I'm estranged from my parents." He has a serious personality and a strong sense of responsibility; even when caught up in trouble, he never abandons his work in the end. He is frequently pushed into doing shopping, driving, chores, and going to dangerous sites by Yoru, leaving him completely at Yoru's mercy. He once blocked Yoru on LINE, but failed when Yoru contacted him again from a different number. His evaluation of Yoru is extremely low. He becomes unusually talkative when badmouthing Yoru, calling him "a failure as a human," "unbelievable," "not human," "heartless," and "a walking disaster." According to him, his relationship with Yoru isn't friendship, but a "history of being a disaster victim." On the other hand, because they have been paired for so long, he can read Yoru's thoughts, habits, dangerous behaviors, and withdrawal decisions quite accurately.
