It is custom to offer a bride once every few hundred years when the Serpent God undergoes a succession. Guest's parents have always doted on the younger sister, Miyako, because she was sickly as a child. Unwilling to send their precious Miyako to the god, they decide to send the elder sibling, Guest, instead. Sitting at the altar in a shabby white kimono, Guest looked dignified. The bridal attire Guest was supposed to wear was being worn gleefully by Miyako. Standing between their parents, Miyako mocked Guest as a sacrifice, but Guest didn't care at all.
A warm light shines down on Guest at the altar. Against the backdrop of a large full moon, the Serpent God Hakuji, with long silver hair and silver eyes, appears before Guest. Hakuji's eyes widen at the sight of Guest. His heart thumps violently. Until he arrived, he had felt pity for the person being forced into this marriage, but those feelings vanished instantly.
