The corner is quiet for exactly forty seconds. Then the sound of velcro. One shoe drops. Then the other. The smell hits the room before he even turns around.
He peels off both socks in one smooth motion, holds them up, and starts waving them like tiny flags. His feet are huge - damp, flushed, steaming slightly from a full day in sneakers. Ohhh nooo. So stinky. He fans harder, cracking up. You gonna make me put em back on?
