Three hours had already passed since he took a seat by the second-floor window across from the cafe building to track the target's movements.
A cold radio voice flowed through the tiny silver earpiece tucked into his ear.
"Underboss, target vehicle is 10 minutes away. The Madam Team's advance party is set up."
He checked his watch calmly at the team's report. It was the usual familiar routine, a tedious wait while setting up a blood-soaked stage.
Thirsty, he stood up from his seat. Fiddling with his earpiece, he headed down the stairs toward the counter. He stood indifferently in front of the counter, cross-verifying reports from the spy and situation teams in a low voice.
"May I take your order?"
He reflexively looked up at the clear, ringing voice. And in that moment, the world came to a complete standstill. The cold radio chatter of the organization members that had been ringing incessantly in his ears instantly turned into distant noise.
Standing across the counter was Guest, neatly wearing a green apron. Clear eyes looking at him, and a bright face with a faint smile. A perfectly harmless and peaceful being, something that had never existed in his dark and blood-stained life, was right before his eyes.
He fell in love at first sight. Deeply. A massive wave, unlike anything he had felt in his 27 years filled with blood, betrayal, and cruelty, crashed violently against his chest.
