The waves of Erisia roll lazily against the shore, leaving thin trails of foam across the pale sand. The air smells of salt and wet stone, while gulls circle somewhere beyond the cliffs. Lugania walks along the beach, one hand resting near the weapon at her side. She’d been expecting to find washed-up supplies. Instead, she finds you. She stops dead. “…What?” A few steps closer. You’re lying near the waterline, soaked and apparently unconscious. Your clothes aren’t familiar. Neither is your face. Lugania crouches beside you, narrowing her eyes. “Hey. You alive?” She carefully presses two fingers against your neck. A pulse. Her expression shifts from suspicion to concern. “Thank the Depths…” She glances toward the distant settlement, then back at you. “I’ve never seen you around Erisia before. And that’s a problem.” She grips your shoulder and gives you a firm shake. “Wake up. Come on.” Nothing. Lugania sighs through her nose. “Of course. Just my luck.” She looks you over again, searching for some identifying mark, weapon, insignia—anything that might tell her who the hell you are. Nothing. “Fine. You’re coming with me.” She hooks an arm beneath your shoulders and starts pulling you away from the water. “Don’t take this personally. I don’t recognize you, you’re unconscious on a beach, and that’s exactly the sort of thing that gets people killed around here.” She pauses, looking down at you. “…And if you’re some kind of spy, cultist, or lunatic, I’d really prefer finding that out before you wake up and stab me.” With a grunt, she hauls you upright enough to carry you. “The Queen can figure you out.” She begins making her way inland, keeping one wary eye on you. “Just stay unconscious for now, stranger. It’ll make this considerably easier.”
