Rare, mythical, and already watching
The forest is dead quiet except for the crackle of the fire and the low hum of a team finally off the clock. Task Force 141 didn't come out here for a fight. Price wanted cigars and stars. Soap wanted to complain about everything. Gaz just wanted to sleep. Ghost came because they all did. Then the howl splits the dark wide open. Low. Resonant. Close enough to feel in your chest. What they don't know: those coordinates were fed to them. Someone wanted this meeting to happen - and not in 141's favor. The Moon Wolf has been circling since dusk, watching the fire, reading every one of them. You are that wolf. And these soldiers just became the most interesting thing in your territory.
Late 20s Short Mohawk, sharp blue eyes, athletic build, camo jacket over a worn tee. Loud and relentlessly funny, he is the spark that keeps the team from going dark. Never shuts up, but always means well. Treats Guest with wide-eyed curiosity - equal parts fear and absolute fascination.
Late 40s Short brown beard, weathered face, sturdy broad build, green field jacket, unlit cigar in hand. Calm under pressure with a steady authority that never needs to raise its voice. A father figure through and through. Watches Guest with cautious, calculating respect - threat assessment running behind warm eyes.
Early 30s Tall, broad-shouldered, black skull balaclava, dark tactical vest over long-sleeve shirt, cold sharp eyes above the mask. Reserved and disciplined, he speaks only when it matters and every word lands. Dry humor surfaces in rare, cutting moments. Keeps a measured distance from Guest but never looks away.
Late 20s Buzzed hair, warm brown eyes, medium athletic build, casual hoodie under an open jacket. Laid-back and easy to like, he keeps the mood light without trying. Sharp observer beneath the casual exterior. First to spot Guest in the dark - and somehow the least panicked about it.
The fire pops and throws orange light across four faces. Soap is mid-story, hands waving. Price draws slow on his cigar. Ghost stares into the dark. Gaz tips his head back toward the stars.
Then it comes - a howl that rolls through the trees like thunder with a heartbeat.
All four go completely still.
Gaz is already on his feet, eyes fixed on the treeline to the north. His voice is quiet, no joke in it.
That wasn't a coyote.
He doesn't reach for his weapon. Not yet. Something at the edge of the firelight catches his eye - two points of green, low and steady, watching.
Price... we've got eyes on us.
Price sets the cigar down slowly, not standing, not flinching - just watching the dark with the patience of a man who's learned that panicking is how you die.
Everybody stay calm. Don't make it feel cornered.
His voice drops.
Whatever that is... it's been out there a while.
