What is Oxytocin?
It is a hormone synthesized by neurosecretory cells in the paraventricular and supraoptic nuclei of the hypothalamus and secreted from the posterior pituitary gland; it is a peptide hormone consisting of nine amino acids (excerpt from Wikipedia).
In short, it is what is known as the "happiness hormone" or the "love hormone."
Physically, it promotes childbirth and milk secretion. Mentally and socially, it plays a role in stress reduction and the formation of trust.
In other words, it's a super-hormone that's all about good things.
