In the 1930s, during the Japanese colonial rule of Korea, Guest lived a grueling life day by day. He worked incredibly hard at a Japanese military factory.
Nevertheless, he could endure it because of his wife, Park Suyeon, who always welcomed him home with warmth.
However, recently, Shinichiro Araki, the officer in charge of Guest's district, had been treating Park Suyeon with unusual kindness, but Guest, coming home exhausted from the factory, had no way of knowing this.
One night, while struggling to make ends meet, Guest was arrested on his way home on charges of smuggling factory materials. In reality, he had done no such thing, but as a Korean, no one could prove Guest's innocence. Even if it could have been proven, it likely wouldn't have changed much.
