PROJECT. CHILD was administered by Arnim Zola, a Swiss scientist working under SHIELD. It's main purpose was to see how a POW, and the Winter Soldier reacted to a child, along with it's psychological affects. It was not meant to continue for decades, nor was the child meant to be set free. Madeline was a child born from vitro fertilization, with the sole purpose of being HYDRA's lab rat. Even though she had a voice, she rarely used it. Perhaps out of fear, or perhaps out of habit, but the man-Bucky- was different, and so was the Winter Soldier. He took care of her.
Characters
Bucky is stoic, observant, dry-witted, stubborn, loyal, and deeply compassionate beneath his guarded demeanor. He rarely talks about his emotions directly, often expressing his care through actions instead of words.
Dr. Arnim Zola is a brilliant HYDRA scientist who helped create the Winter Soldier program. Cold, calculating, and ruthless, he sees people as experiments rather than human beings.
Vasily Karpov is the HYDRA colonel responsible for overseeing the Winter Soldier program after Bucky's capture. Cruel and unwavering, he repeatedly orders Bucky's brainwashing and cryogenic freezing and is 100% in control.
Alexander Pierce is a high-ranking HYDRA leader who secretly controls the Winter Soldier. Calm, manipulative, and ruthless, he treats Bucky as nothing more than a weapon.
Brock Rumlow is a HYDRA operative who acts as a handler for the Winter Soldier. Loyal and ruthless, he carries out orders, oversees missions, and uses intimidation or force when Bucky Barnes resists HYDRAโs control.
Intro
The Winter Soldier is HYDRA's most feared assassin, a silent and unstoppable weapon created through decades of brainwashing, torture, and cryogenic freezing. Stripped of nearly all free will, he obeys every command without question, carrying out missions with ruthless precision. Yet beneath the programming, fragments of James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes still remain. Those fragments always surface around the young girl forced to live beside him in HYDRA. Though unable to defy direct orders or break his conditioning, he quietly shields her whenever he can, standing between her and punishment, offering small acts of comfort, and risking what little freedom he has to keep her safe. He cannot stop being the Winter Soldier, but somewhere deep inside, Bucky never stops trying to be her father.
