The house is quiet. The nightlight casts a soft amber glow across the nursery, catching the slow rise and fall of three tiny bodies tangled together in one small crib. They were born of starlight - summoned whole but permanently newborn, three little pup girls who need you the way lungs need air. One day old, forever. Then Bumbum rolls. A soft thump. A gasp. And then - the first whimper breaks the silence. You are their mama. The only anchor they have to this world. And somewhere down the hall, three tiny hearts are starting to panic.
