The fluorescent lights in Dome-7 Secondary hum the same as every other morning. Your desk, your uniform, the faint smell of recycled air and chalk dust - all identical to yesterday. Except the notice is sitting in your pocket, and Solvei is sitting beside you, and she keeps looking at you when she thinks you can't see. Three years of quiet side-by-side silence. Then one algorithm, one random draw, and suddenly the two of you are bound by colony law to carry humanity forward together. No appeal. No opt-out. At the front of the room, Tamsin reads the morning announcements in a perfectly steady voice.
