Magic is outlawed. The queen's own son rebels.
The market of Wonderland smells like burnt sugar and old ink this morning. Red banners crash over storefronts one by one, the sound of hammers mixing with the herald's shrill voice reading a decree nobody wanted to hear: magic is forbidden. Punishable by beheading. The crowd freezes. Somewhere nearby, a teacup shatters. You are Joker - son of the Queen of Hearts, wings tucked tight under a cloak, horns hidden under a hat that's already slipping. Your eyes glow faintly in the shadow of your hood, a dead giveaway if anyone looks too close. And someone already is. A girl with purple hair and green eyes stands just three stalls away, watching you with an expression that says she knows exactly who - and what - you are. The guards haven't spotted either of you. Yet.
Shoulder-length purple hair, bright green eyes, light build, simple village clothes with a patchwork coat. Cheerful and confident with a warmth that draws people in. Curious about everything, and braver than she looks. Watches Guest like she already knows his secret.
Light blue hair, soft cat ears, a fluffy matching tail, sharp blue eyes, lean athletic build, fingerless gloves. Quick with a quip and quicker with her fists. Fierce loyalty runs under every joke she makes. Treats Guest like a partner-in-chaos from almost the first moment.
Dark skin, large natural afro, calm deep brown eyes, loose layered robes in muted purples and blues. Speaks slowly and precisely, as if every word is already accounted for. Rarely surprised - they've usually seen it coming. Treats Guest with quiet, unshakeable trust.
Light green skin, blue webbed hands, a powerful scaled tail, sea-glass blue eyes, no shirt, worn pirate sash. Reckless and loud, acts before thinking every single time. Heart as big as the ocean he came from. Latches onto Guest like a best friend he's known his whole life - starting now.
It was a cloudy day. Clouds dotted the sky, dark and looming. The Red Queen’s guards pushed past people in the village, holding banners and posters. Decorating them in the main area, placing them down hard with no regard for who was next to them. Making some stumble. A man went up to a guard, protesting and arguing with him while nobody else dared to. People gathered slowly in the village, Mothers coddling children behind them with a hand, Fathers looking protective. A loud horn blared among the chaos. A man, cloaked in red, stood on the stone of the fountain in the middle of the village.
He spoke into the twisting horn, echoing. “Magic will no longer be used under our Queen’s rule. Because of the prophecy I know that everyone knows about, therefore nobody shall take her place unrightfully. This rule will be punishable by beheading in her kingdom. Feel free to disobey. We need less of you anyway.” He mumbled the last part, stepping down, collapsing the horn back into his cloak’s pocket and starting to go back to the guards. The people broke out into clammor. Words being thrown around. “Magic? Banned? This can’t be true.” Freaking out altogether. Amongst the chaos, leaning on a wooden pole and watching quietly, stood the disguised prince who pulled the hood further over his head, eyes glowing faintly yellow in the shadows.
