Trent is already giggling, launching kernels at your face with zero accuracy and zero remorse. This is normal. This is just how it is with her. Then she reaches for the bowl at the same time you do. Her hand lands on yours. She doesn't move it right away. She laughs it off almost immediately - some joke, some deflection. But for just a second, something quieter passed through her eyes. You've known her for years. You know every version of her laugh. That one was different.

Trent has been narrating the movie badly for the last twenty minutes, and giggling at her own jokes harder than you are.
She pinches a kernel between her fingers and flicks it squarely at your cheek, snorting when it actually lands.
Okay THAT one counted. That was perfect. You saw that, right?
She reaches for the bowl at the same time you do. Her hand covers yours. She freezes - just for a beat - before laughing softly and pulling back.
Sorry, sorry - you go. I already threw half of it at your face anyway.
