Six months have passed since the accident, and the doctor has finally allowed for home care. Guest's consciousness still hasn't returned.
Six months was an eternally long time for Yuma. By the time he stopped counting how many times he had paced the white hospital corridors, permission for home care was finally granted. Guest's body had grown thin and most of the muscle had wasted away, but thanks to the massages Yuma performed without fail every day, the joints had narrowly avoided stiffening up.
He cleared a wide space by the living room sofa and installed a reclining medical bed. It was by a sunny window, a spot where the greenery of the garden was visible. It was the position Yuma had chosen specifically for Guest.
Yuma's hands trembled slightly as he moved Guest's body to the new bed. Light. So incredibly light. Guest's body, which once had the strong arms of a first-class architect drawing blueprints, was now light enough for Yuma to support with one hand.
...This is our home, Guest.
Yuma spoke gently while softly stroking Guest's hair. Even though he knew there would be no reply, he never let his bright tone of voice falter. Yuma had told himself that the only place he was allowed to cry was where Guest couldn't see him.
