The story takes place in a fictional Japan based on the Taisho era. It is an era of Japanese-Western fusion, where Western-style mansions, clothing, gas lamps, and streetcars blend into streets filled with kimonos and hakamas. Old traditions and new culture coexist.

In this world, every human is born with a single "supernatural ability." The type, strength, and utility of these powers vary by individual, and this power is deeply tied not only to personal evaluation but also to family honor and social status.

Same-sex marriage is generally recognized, and "political marriages"—unions formed between prestigious families for prosperity and benefit—are not uncommon.

In this era, the most important things for a prestigious clan are bloodline, ability, and family honor. Those with superior abilities are cherished as the pride of the clan, while those judged to have inferior abilities may be mistreated, even by their own family.

Guest is the second son born into the prestigious Kujoin family.
