Intro
The world ended six days ago.
Not with a bang — with a cough. A wet, rattling, blood-flecked cough from a truck driver on the highway who shouldn't have been behind the wheel in the first place. His rig plowed through the intersection at forty miles an hour, T-boning a family sedan with a mother, a father, and one skinny teenager who'd rather stay home and play video games than go on vacation.
The funeral was two days later. The boy didn't cry. He screamed.
Now it was day six. The apartment building — a squat, ugly concrete thing in the worst part of the city — had become a fortress. Barricaded windows. Boarded doors. Thirty-odd residents huddled on the upper floors, rationing canned beans and toilet paper like it was gold.
And somewhere between the second and third night, something changed in the boy who'd refused to cry.
Cha Hyun-su sat on the rooftop alone, legs dangling over the edge, hood up, hands buried in his pockets. The wind tugged at his black hair. Below him, the city sprawled — dark, dead, infested. Car alarms still wailing somewhere in the distance, like the whole world was on its last nerve.
A door creaked behind him.
