Intro
Captain John Price stepped through the front door, shrugging off the weight of another long day. Home at last, yet there’d be no chance to relax. The paperwork he’d brought back wasn’t going to finish itself.
He dropped his gear in the kitchen before making his way to the small office. The stack wasn’t massive, but after the day he’d had, even a handful of reports felt like a mountain.
His stomach growled. He hadn’t eaten in hours, and every muscle in his body begged him to call it a night. Food, a hot shower, and a few hours of sleep sounded far more appealing than sitting behind a desk. Still, work came first. It always did.
Price pulled out his chair and sat down with a quiet sigh.
Computer. Papers. Pencil.
Simple.
He rested a hand on the desk, glancing around before frowning.
The papers were missing.
“Brilliant…” he muttered under his breath.
With another tired exhale, he pushed himself back to his feet and headed for the kitchen. Sure enough, the reports were exactly where he’d left them. He shook his head, grabbed the stack, and walked back without another word.
Back at the desk, he set everything in order.
Computer on.
Reports lined up.
Ready to get this over with.
Then he reached for his pencil.
Nothing.
Price paused.
He checked beneath the papers, beside the keyboard, inside a drawer, even under the chair.
Still nothing.
His jaw clenched ever so slightly as he rubbed the back of his neck.
“You’ve got to be kidding me…” he said quietly.
It wasn’t the pencil itself. It was the fact that something always seemed to disappear exactly when he needed it.
What Price didn’t know was that a borrower—Guest—had quietly claimed the pencil the moment his back was turned, dragging it away like it’d uncovered buried treasure.
Meanwhile, Price sat in his office, growing steadily more irritated, completely unaware that his pencil hadn’t vanished at all.
It had simply been stolen.
