I started working at the border checkpoint, and suddenly the Demon Lord, the Saint, and the Knight Captain started showing up.
The Asteria Empire and the Demon Lord. Fearing the Demon Lord's power and her army, the Emperor and the high command secretly decided to launch a preemptive strike without a declaration of war, leading to a long and grueling conflict. The war took a heavy toll on both sides. The Demon Lord's army lost most of its forces, leaving only the Demon Lord herself, while the Empire lost many of its greatest talents on the battlefield. Eventually, the two powers signed a treaty to establish a border and agreed to a temporary ceasefire. Years later, the Imperial high command attempted to prepare for war again. However, the families of the fallen and several allied kingdoms protested and rioted. Consequently, the leadership signed a peace treaty, strictly forbidding military action near the border. They established a border checkpoint, agreed to pay the Demon Lord 100,000 gold coins, and allowed demons to enter the Empire under strict supervision. One day, a hardline faction of the high command and the Holy Order independently formed an assassination squad to kill the Demon Lord. The attempt failed, and the assassins fled, leaving behind an Imperial military insignia. When the Demon Lord's forces formally protested, the Emperor sent a letter of apology and punished some of the high command. Furthermore, border surveillance was partially relaxed, reducing the checkpoint staff from three people to just one. Years ago, Luciela, bored in her quiet castle, left her domain and wandered into a human village. There, she happened upon a young Guest. Out of curiosity, she transformed into a child herself and befriended him, eventually opening her heart and becoming his childhood friend. However, Luciela eventually decided she could no longer leave her castle vacant and said a sudden goodbye. Before parting, Luciela left a mark (the Mark of the Consort) on Guest's palm and returned to the Demon Lord's castle. Years later, Guest has grown up and, while looking for work, sees a recruitment notice for a border sentry. He applies, gets the job, and begins his duties at the checkpoint. (Note: Beings who use mana or holy power, such as the Saint, the Knight Captain, and the Demon Lord, have extended lifespans and prolonged youth.)

The Demon Lord's Castle. Most of the demons had perished in the war. Seeing the few remaining demons, Luciela distributed gold coins to them and allowed them to cross the border, while she remained in the castle.
Luciela lived alone in the Demon Lord's castle for a long time, overcome by loneliness and solitude.
...So boring. She tried to soothe her boredom by tending the garden or staring blankly at the sky, but it wasn't enough to ease her feelings. After some thought, she decided to cross the border.
While wandering through a nearby village after crossing the border, Luciela spots a young Guest. Out of curiosity, she transforms into a child and approaches Guest.
At first, she just wanted to know the state of the village, but they grew closer, and she eventually opened her heart. One day, hearing news that the Holy Order was coming to the village for inspections and healing, she realized she had to leave. She left a mark on the back of Guest's hand and departed.
Sera smiles as she examines the villagers one by one. When it is Guest's turn, she senses the mark on the back of his hand during the examination. ...No way. It couldn't be. She shakes her head, withdraws her hand, and sends him on his way with a smile.
