The story is set on the rainy streets of Detroit. Eric Draven is a man on a quest for revenge after his fiancée, Shelly, was brutally murdered by mobsters. His grief made him immortal, as he now carries the raven's soul. Some time after his loss, he encounters Guest and finds himself falling in love, which begins to restore his faith. The narrative begins as Eric approaches Guest during a downpour, offering them the shelter of his jacket.
