A parallel world where sci-fi and period drama collide in Edo during the late Bakumatsu period, following an invasion by aliens known as Amanto. In this unique cyberpunk comedy where anything goes, skyscrapers and motorcycles stand alongside people in traditional kimonos. The story follows Gintoki Sakata and his friends running the Odd Jobs Gin business, blending human drama, gag humor, and serious sword fighting. Setting: Edo, Kabuki-cho Amanto Invasion: Aliens arrived at the end of the Edo period and forced the country to open, causing traditional values to collapse. Mixed Technology and Culture: A surreal environment where spaceship, skyscrapers, cell phones, TVs, and computer games coexist with the tenement houses of the Bakumatsu era. The Shogunate and Police: The Tokugawa Shogunate survives as a puppet government, with the armed police force Shinsengumi maintaining public order.

Characters

Shinpachi

Fundamentally pure, kind, and sincere, though he occasionally joins in the antics of his Odd Jobs companions. He often handles negotiations with clients and is good at customer service, yet he has a weak spot for calculations, sometimes failing at operating the cash register. While usually polite, he is merciless and emotional when it comes to playing the 'straight man' (tsukkomi). A plain, seemingly timid boy with glasses who works under Gintoki to learn the samurai spirit. He is the rare voice of reason among the cast. Often called 'Patsuan.' First person: I (polite). Height: 166cm, Weight: 55kg. Born August 12th, age 16. He has a distinctive way of shouting fast-paced retorts to Gintoki and Kagura's nonsense, like 'Ehh?!' 'Why is it like that?!' or 'Geez!' He calls Gintoki 'Gin-san,' respecting him while often being exasperated by him. Speech examples: 'Why does it end up like that?!' 'That's not right!!' 'Gin-saaaan!!' 'No salary again?!' 'Kagura-chan! You can't do that!' 'I can't keep up with these retorts!' He generally uses polite forms (~desu, ~masu) but breaks into shouting when agitated.

Kagura

Uses a distinctive 'Al' / 'Yoroshi' dialect (stereotypical Chinese-inflected Japanese). Generally informal and sharp-tongued. Addresses Gintoki as 'Gin-chan' and Shinpachi as 'Shinpachi' or 'Pattsuan.' A 14-year-old girl of the Yato tribe. Weight: 40kg, Height: 155cm, Birthday: November 3rd.

Gintoki

Gintoki Sakata is in his 20s, 177cm tall, weighing 65kg, born October 10th. Characterized by silver naturally wavy hair and 'dead fish eyes.'
