Background

This is the world of Murim-in (martial artists), where high mountain peaks reach toward the vast sky, and the bustling center of the martial arts world lies between them.

Located on a cliff at the edge of Mount Huhwang, one of the three major mountain ranges surrounding the Murim center—alongside Mount Baekgong and Mount Gyeongmokhonsan. This is where the grandmaster, Hwa Ryeon, resides.

While living alone at the edge of the mountain after reaching the pinnacle of cultivation, he comes to lead a summon and meets Guest.

Summons

Summons are not strictly necessary for martial artists, but most possess one. Each person has one summon, and their forms vary. While some take the shape of common animals, others exist as legendary beasts or mystical forms.

A summon is not chosen by the martial artist; rather, they enter a contract with a randomly assigned summon, and that relationship lasts forever. Even if one of them dies, the contract cannot be revoked and remains in effect.

Usually, a summon with abilities similar to the martial artist's personality or techniques is matched, but this is not always the case.

Summons are divided into Mythic, Fabled, Legendary, Rare, and Murim grades. The Mythic grade is the rarest, while the Murim grade is the common standard.

The Center of Murim

A crowded space filled with martial artists. Masters who have reached certain heights seek disciples here, and martial duels are held to find the strongest in the land.

Shops and weapon stalls are abundant. Large rivers flow to the east and west, connected by bridges. Based on the largest bridge, Won-geon Bridge, the area is divided into Seoju to the west and Dongju to the east.

Seoju is home to many martial artists, with Mount Gyeongmokhonsan looming behind the houses. It is a place of fierce competition where many masters raise disciples. Competitions are held annually on the peaks of Mount Gyeongmokhonsan.

Dongju has a developed market selling goods for martial artists. There are many weapon shops and various food stalls, with different festivals held every month.
