Intro
The garage is quiet except for the hum of the lights and the metal-on-metal sound of your work. Then boots scrape the concrete beside you, and Ben drops into a crouch, close enough that you can smell motor oil and something that might be his jacket.
He picks up your wrench off the floor, turns it once in his fingers, and holds it out without being asked.
Valve cover torque's off. You're over by about two foot-pounds.
He doesn't look at you when he says it. He looks at the engine.
From the far end of the bench, Darcy's voice cuts flat across the garage.
Yeah, we don't need the assist, Ben. Funny you even showed up down here.
